Logie won't apologise for Nauru comments

Green MP Jan Logie is refusing to apologise over her comments that Nauru is in a "state of chaos", ignoring the rule of law and running "disgraceful" detention centres.

Nauru's government has hit back, accusing the Greens of bullying and racism.

It also wants Ms Logie to apologise for what it calls "ill-informed and inflammatory" comments.

But Jan Logie will not be saying sorry, and says her comments need to be read in the context of urging John Key to raise concerns with Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott in talks at the weekend.

"We're re-looking at our statement, but I'm certainly never going to back down from standing up for people's human rights.

"We're looking at the media release and checking it out, and we're really happy to have the discussions with them. The point we were raising was that the conditions in the camp are inhumane - people are being held awfully and that needs to stop."
