PM brushes off 'culturally ignorant' accusations

By: Kaye Albyt | Latest Political News | Monday September 17 2012 8:41

The Prime Minister is brushing aside claims he's "culturally ignorant" over his stance on water rights.

Kingitanga spokesman Tuku Morgan has slapped the label on John Key, as the government refuses to budge over the issue which is already delaying the partial sale of Mighty River Power.

Mr Key believes the issue is straight forward.

"When it comes to all of these contemporary claims and these elements, whether it's water or wind or air or sunlight or sea, they are owned either by no-one or everyone but they're there for the national interests and the development of this country for the benefit of all New Zealanders."

Mr Key says his view is firmly supported by common law.
