Labour appalled by axing of environmental report

By: Newstalk ZB staff | Latest Political News | Monday October 29 2012 12:24

Labour is appalled the five yearly report on the environment has been axed.

The Environment Ministry usually releases the State of the Environment Report every five years.

But it won't be happening this year, as planned, with the ministry instead reporting on information as it becomes available.

Labour MP Grant Robertson says that's a 'head in the sand' attitude and if we want to protect the country we need to have consistent and quality information.

Mr Robertson wants the independent Parliamentary Commissioner for the Environment to be tasked with the role of producing the reports every five years.
