Labour appears to have hired the big guns to get David Shearer looking good in the public eye.

The party's leader is undergoing media training with former TVNZ chief executive Ian Fraser.

Newstalk ZB's political editor Barry Soper says media expert Brian Edwards did a good job with Helen Clark, so Labour will be hoping the same happens with Ian Fraser and Mr Shearer.

Barry Soper says if David Shearer is to become Prime Minister in 2014, he needs to brush up on his media skills.
