New health and safety rules are to be applied to the oil and gas industry. Acting Minister of Labour Chris Finlayson has announced the changes today. He says New Zealand's regulatory standards are to be brought into line with those used in Australia and the United Kingdom. Operators will face increased health and safety planning obligations, as well as more reporting of near miss incidents. Mr Finlayson indicates industry will carry the costs of the new regime.
