The Government is enjoying Labour's leadership wobbles.

Deputy Prime Minister Bill English says he isn't surprised David Cunliffe has eyes for the top job.

The Labour caucus will tomorrow be asked to endorse leader David Shearer following recent speculation.

Mr English told the Farming Show Mr Cunliffe will look to curry favour with unions to boost his future prospects.

"This is a man who sees himself as pulling the strings.

"He doesn't have the numbers in the caucus so he's been able to get the rules changed to get the unions in."

Bill English says David Cunliffe may be getting ahead of himself.
