Proposal to make information sharing easier

By: Natasha Burling | Latest Political News | Friday April 13 2012 7:26

The Privacy Commissioner wants to make information sharing easier during national emergencies.

As a result, Marie Shroff has released a proposed code of practice under the Privacy Act.

It will partially relax laws on disclosing personal information to allow a fast response during national emergencies.

For example, the code would allow the sharing of information to help identify people caught up in the emergency and to make sure those who are responsible for others are kept informed.

People can read the proposed code at www.privacy.org.nz

They have until May 25 to send in written submissions.
