Maurice Williamson has told the producers of the Ellen show he won't appear if the focus is on him.
It's been three weeks since the National MP was offered a spot on the US talk show after his 'big gay rainbow' speech in parliament on same sex marriage.
The New Zealand Herald reports he says he's keen for it to be about New Zealand and being a tolerant society.
But Mr Williamson says the producers are keen for the show to be about him, because it's about people not countries.
He says he wants the opportunity to sell New Zealand to homosexuals around the world as an attractive country to visit.
