It's set to be mostly work and little play for a group of young parliamentarians on 'exchange' in America this week. MPs Nikki Kaye, Simon O'Connor, Chris Hipkins, and Megan Woods are four of the delegates arriving in the United States today for two weeks of studying the American political process. Private Secretary to Speaker Lockwood Smith, Amelia Abplanalp is accompanying the parliamentarians on their trip. She says aside from a few sight-seeing hours in Washington and Boston, the delegates' schedule's going to be very busy. "It's a very full schedule we'll be having a range of meetings with various speakers and senators. We're meeting with a thinktank, we're meeting with Mike Moore who is our ambassador over there. "It will be really neat for the MPs and parliamentarians that are going to actually get an experience of American politics firsthand. That's always an experience they can bring back and use to contribute in our parliament."
Amelia Abplanalp says the trip schedule is packed with meetings, but the delegates will have some time to sight-see in each of the cities they visit. Image: Getty Images |
