Labour leaks Cabinet paper on MFAT changes

By: Barry Soper | Latest Political News | Wednesday May 2 2012 15:23

Labour has today leaked a Cabinet paper, meant to be discussed next Monday, on the changes at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

It shows the embassy in Stockholm will be closed next month and that embassies in Spain and the Netherlands are also earmarked for closure.

It also shows the savings will be $12 million dollars in the first year which will be eaten up by consultants and the restructuring costs.

Labour's Phil Goff told Parliament the restructuring is dumb.

"That has already caused the outflow of a huge number of talented staff, particularly when staff base salaries in the ministry have been frozen for four years unlike the minister's own salary."
