Performance based pay not the norm

By: Felix Marwick | Latest Political News | Thursday May 17 2012 15:06

It appears performance based pay is not the norm in the public sector.

The Government is considering introducing the approach as part of appraisal processes for teachers.

Information provided by the State Services Commission reveals the use of performance based pay is not common for state sector employees, other than department chief executives, and its use has been dropping over the past five years

Official figures reveal last year just 3.6 percent of all public servants, or under 1700 people, received performance based pay.
