Marryatt must go - Shearer

Labour leader David Shearer says Christchurch City Council chief executive Tony Marryatt has to go.

Mr Marryatt been placed on gardening leave following questions over his performance and an independent inquiry is carried out into his role leading up to the council having its consenting accreditation removed.

The Government is staying out of the argument, saying it's a matter for the council.

Mr Shearer says if it is proven Mr Marryatt has under-performed, any kind of payout must be out of the question.
