Polls show Shearer could lead government

By: Katie Bradford-Crozier | Latest Political News | Monday December 3 2012 5:20

Some Christmas cheer for David Shearer with the latest political polls showing a centre-left coalition could lead the next government.

The results of TV One and TV3's last polls for the year will be welcome news for Mr Shearer, with Labour up in both polls, sitting around 35 percent support.

National meanwhile is feeling the effects of a high unemployment rate and a tough year, down in both polls, sitting on 47 in TV3's poll and 44 in TV One's.

With the Greens continuing to ride high, a centre left coalition would edge out National, ACT and United Future if an election was held today.

In the preferred Prime Minister stakes, Mr Key is down to his lowest point in years in both polls, while Mr Shearer is already higher than his predecessor Phil Goff ever reached.
