Opposition efforts to get movement in the manufacturing sector are underway.
Labour, the Greens, and New Zealand First announced last year they'd hold an inquiry into the industry following job losses in the sector and complaints over the impact of the high Kiwi dollar on exports.
Inquiry hearings are due to start at Parliament today with company owners, unionists, and lobby groups fronting to give evidence.
The inquiry's been dismissed by the Government as a political stunt and has no formal status, meaning its findings don't have to be considered or acted on by the Crown.
