The Government's being told to look at better ways of handling the student loans scheme.
It comes following the Government's decision to increase the repayment rate for loan holders from 10 cents in the dollar to 12.
Green MP Holly Walker says repayment rates should be progressive so that the more a graduate earns the more they repay.
"When it kicks in at $19,000, which is less than the full time equivalent of the minimum wage, we think it's absurd to ask people to pay 10 percent of their income, let alone 12 percent of their income back on their student loan."
Ms Walker believes the approach would achieve faster repayment rates without placing an unnecessary burden on low income graduates.
