Ministry mergers described as a farce

By: Felix Marwick | Latest Political News | Friday May 18 2012 14:12

"Superficial" and a "farce" are just two of the words being used to describe the due diligence work conducted by the Government on its latest ministry mergers.

Labour MP David Cunliffe isn't happy with the content of a just released report on the creation of the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment.

He's upset that large parts of the 16 page due diligence report have been withheld by the Government and says the the whole process has been superficial and designed to legitimise a purely political decision.

Mr Cunliffe says the report fails to give any evidence of benefits and is light on details around costs and efficiency gains.
