NZ Post demands changes to delivery days

By: Katie Bradford-Crozier | Latest Political News | Thursday April 26 2012 11:42

New Zealand Post wants the flexibility to shorten or change delivery days in the future.

A strongly-worded letter has been sent to State Owned Enterprises minister Tony Ryall from New Zealand Post chairman Michael Cullen saying the company is facing a dire economic situation.

In the letter Ryall says the company has reached the point where it can no longer just cut costs and rely on new products to make up for falling mail numbers.

Mail volumes are expected to continue falling by five percent each year.

Dr Cullen wants the government to revise the agreement that forces New Zealand Post to deliver mail six days a week and have a certain number of outlets around the country.
