Doubts Govt will act on Tribunal findings

By: Felix Marwick | Latest Political News | Thursday October 18 2012 15:25

The Maori Party isn't convinced the Government will act on Waitangi Tribunal recommendations on kohanga reo and the Maori language.

The Tribunal found the Crown has breached the Treaty in its dealings with kohanga reo.

It's recommending those breaches be addressed, and an apology be made to those affected.

Maori Party MP Te Ururoa Flavell says the Government has a track record of not adopting Waitangi Tribunal recommendations.

"The downside of all of these reports is that we are not always hopeful that the Government will respond to Waitangi Tribunal reports."
