Kim Dotcom pays visit to parliament

By: Newstalk ZB staff | Latest Political News | Wednesday September 19 2012 14:14

Parliament's question time got very interesting this afternoon with John Banks' mayoral campaign donor Kim Dotcom paying a visit.

The Megaupload founder passed it off as a normal visit, even though the media attention makes it anything but.

"I'm just here to visit the parliament."

Mr Dotcom was saying nothing about how the Prime Minister has treated Mr Banks.

Nor does he care whether Mr Banks acknowledges his visit.

The Prime Minister took a diplomatic approach to the presence of Mr Dotcom.

John Key won't be talking with Mr Dotcom, saying he's before the Courts and any discussions would be inappropriate.

And he's not making a big deal about Dotcom's presence.

"It's a free country. He's entitled to do that."

He says Dotcom's presence at parliament doesn't put any pressure on him.

While the Prime Minister brushed off the visit, it's proving highly entertaining for some of his opponents.

Green Party Co-Leader Russel Norman is among them.

"It'll be very interesting to hear a conversation between John Banks and Kim Dotcom. We could maybe get SkyCity in the room at the same time, that would make it even more interesting."

Mana MP Hone Harawira was also amused by Dotcom's visit

"Where is he, upstairs? That should be fun."

Dotcom spoke with the media after watching today's question time.

He's offended that Mr Banks denied the pair's friendship and has this to say about Mr Key's decision to keep the Epsom MP on as a minister.

"If my leadership would not uphold high ethical standards, I would worry what else is lingering in the dark that I don't know about and as a voter I would certainly consider who to give my vote."
