Maori Party proposing Alcohol Reform Bill changes

| Latest Political News | Saturday June 2 2012 9:45

The Maori party wants restrictions on the proximity of liquor stores to schools.

MP Te Ururoa Flavell says the party is proposing significant amendments to the Alcohol Reform Bill.

He says alcohol kills up to 1000 New Zealanders every year and is sapping communities of their greatest potential.

Mr Flavell wants offsite licences restricted to 10am to 10pm opening hours, a one-way door policy for bars, and a sinking lid policy on liquor stores.

The Maori Party says it supports moves to oppose a liquor licence for a new shop in the Porirua suburb of Cannon's Creek.
