Interest free loans may be under threat

By: Newstalk ZB staff | Latest Political News | Thursday March 29 2012 9:21

The Government's being accused of welching on interest free student loans.

Labour's concerned a section of the 2011 Act that prohibits a loan manager from charging interest, has been repealed.

Labour MP Sua William Sio demanded in Parliament last night that Revenue Minister Peter Dunne explain the change and what it means.

"People listening to the debate will suspect that there's been a deliberate attempt by this government to not reveal that they are appealing the interest free aspect of this bill."

Peter Dunne wasn't present to give an explanation, and none was forthcoming from Government MPs.
