Fiordland's international status not a barrier

Related

Fiordland's international standing won't be the be-all and end-all when it comes to a major development being proposed for the region

Opponents of the project are highlighting Fiordland National Park's World heritage status as a reason why the proposed Milford tunnel project shouldn't proceed.

Conservation Minister Nick Smith says the heritage status is a factor, but not by any means the most significant one.

He says those that claim a tunnel, or similar visitor facilities, would remove the heritage status are, in his view, mistaken.
