PM expressing full confidence in Parata

By: Katie Bradford-Crozier | Latest Political News | Tuesday October 9 2012 6:28

The Prime Minister's expressing full confidence in his Education Minister.

Hekia Parata's faced a raft of controversies since taking over the role after last year's election.

They've included the backdown over larger class sizes and the botched handling of the closure and merger of Christchurch schools.

But John Key is standing by her.

He says education always provokes emotion.

"I think it's always difficult because when you are in that position, you always naturally have an avalanche of opposition - and that's tough for any education minister. Frankly, it was tough under Labour and it's tough under National."
