Government health and charitable agencies merge

By: Katie Bradford-Crozier | Latest Political News | Thursday May 31 2012 10:55

It's official - from July 1 the Alcohol Advisory Council, Health Sponsorship Council and Mental Health Commission will no longer exist.

Parliament last night passed three bills that effectively merge government health and charitable agencies.

The Health Promotion Agency replaces the alcohol advisory and health sponsorship councils.

A Mental Health Commissioner will work within the Office of the Health and Disability Commissioner.

State Services Minister Jonathan Coleman says the move reduces state sector fragmentation and makes government services more viable and efficient.
