Govt rejects 'trades drain' accusations

| Latest Political News | Monday October 1 2012 19:20

The Government is rejecting accusations it's sat on its hands and ignored a "trades drain".

The allegation's been made by the Labour party on the basis of figures that show thousands of trade qualified people are leaving the country for offshore opportunities.

Minister of Business, Innovation, and Employment Steven Joyce says the criticism is ludicrous.

"The reality is, we've got people flat out being trained for the Christchurch rebuild. About $35 million worth of additional expenditure there, from re-prioritised base lines, and re-prioritised ITPs."
