John Banks accused of cronyism

By: Natasha Burling | Latest Political News | Wednesday May 2 2012 15:56

ACT Party leader John Banks is being accused of cronyism by appointing the former president of his party to chair a working group on charter schools.

Catherine Issac was appointed to chair the Charter School Working Group in March.

In papers released under the Official Information Act, John Banks says he followed State Services Commission guidelines in appointing members of the group's board.

However, when it comes to Ms Issac he simply says a decision had already been made to nominate her as chair of the group.

PPTA president Robin Duff says claims by Mr Banks that the Charter School Working Group will be an independent arms-length body are laughable in light of the revelations.
