International agreement to crack down on tax matters

By: Katie Bradford-Crozier | Latest Political News | Wednesday October 31 2012 13:14

The signing of an international agreement means evading tax has become that much harder.

Revenue Minister Peter Dunne has signed a multilateral convention on mutual assistance in tax matters.

It'll help with the detection and prevention of tax evasion by allowing Inland Revenue to request information from other tax authorities, as well as help the IRD collect outstanding tax debts from people who have absconded overseas.

42 countries have signed the agreement.
