Details on partial asset floats may become clear

Specific details on how the Government intends to handle share offers in partial asset floats could be made clear today.

The Prime Minister's to firm up aspects of the Mixed Ownership Model policy in his speech to the National Party conference later today.

John Key's not being drawn on details but indicates it might cover incentives or loyalty schemes to encourage people to hold onto SOE shares

"I'm not going to detail it but you might be on the right track, roughly."

On Q+A this morning, John Key says New Zealanders are becoming increasingly interested in their opportunities to buy shares.

"So this might present an opportunity for them to do so and what we'll be talking about at least at one level is how we can make that process as easy as possible. In the end, final decisions are up to them and their financial advisors if they choose to take advice."

Meanwhile Social Development Minister Paula Bennett's making light of the protests her welfare reforms have sparked.

She's joked how she's the only government minister to have had her effigy burnt.

And Ms Bennett says if the first round of welfare reforms was interesting then just wait for stage two.

"I must admit that I often sit there and I think of these Sue Bradford and the (likes) that are sitting around a table with their ripped up newspaper and glue and sort of a photo of me and making a paper mache life-size... but they've got time, they've got time."

Ms Collins is also poking fun at a man she's suing.

Ms Collins has directly referenced Labour MP Trevor Mallard at the National Party conference this morning.

"I've been given a taser... So where's Mr Mallard? Oh I mustn't be personal, because apparently I'm better than that."

And the National Party's sticking with its current president.

The announcement's been made at the party's conference in Auckland this morning.

Peter Goodfellow has been reappointed unopposed and by unanimous vote.

"I appreciate the confidence that you have shown not only in me, but also in the whole board."
