Thereâ s confidence on the part of the Indonesian president that the thorny issue of tariffs on New Zealand beef can be resolved. Despite signing a free trade deal earlier this year, the Indonesians are being protectionist over the beef market. Prime Minister John Key met with President Susilo Yudhiyono today. Speaking through an interpreter, the President seemed confident the issue will eventually be resolved. "I am convinced that there is a solution and I have asked my minister of trade to discuss also with his counterpart so that he may overcome these challenges and perhaps other issues that will be arising."
