Speaker ruling set to decide Dunne matter

The Speaker looks set to be the final arbiter on whether United Future and Peter Dunne continue to hold perks and funding in Parliament.

Winston Peters believes funding rules mean United Future shouldn't be able to access Party and leaders' funding until after the next election, once its party status is renewed.

"New Party means they have to be elected, so the Speaker's got to reconsider and I'm compelled to say he'll get legal opinion saying that he must make that decision against the United Party getting the funding of leadership now."

However the Office of the Clerk indicates this isn't quite the case.

It says the Speaker's rulings are the determinant, and in this case the Speaker is reconsidering Peter Dunne's position.
