140 Department of Conservation staff have today been told they're out of a job.
It takes the number of people axed at the department since National took office in 2008 to 265.
Staff have this morning been told 140 people in regional management and admin positions will soon be out the door.
The department's been told to save $8.7 million, but director-general Al Morrison says this is about working more effectively and not about budget cuts.
The job losses will be a combination of the three Rs - redeployment, relocation and redundancies.
