PM's Office keeps an eye on tweets

The Prime Minister's Office confirms it does keep an eye on political tweets.

Newstalk ZB's been told a staffer on the ninth floor keeps an eye on Twitter feeds with relevant tweets collated and passed on to relevant ministers.

The Prime Minister's Office maintains it's not a new position but falls within the duties of one of their media assistants responsible for monitoring social media.

The PM's office says the practice has been in place since 2007.
