Water rights issue will go to court - Sharples

By: Rachel Jackson-Lees | Latest Political News | Monday August 6 2012 22:21

A two hour meeting between the Prime Minister and the Maori Party has broken up at Parliament with Pita Sharples saying he believes the water rights issue will end up in court.

The Waitangi Tribunal's agreed to give an interim report earlier than it intended to the Government, so it can make a decision on the Mighty River share float.

If the Government ignores the Tribunal which it's allowed to do under law, then the next step is a High Court challenge and Dr Sharples believes that's the most likely outcome.
