Thousands protest against proposed changes to Chch schools

By: Annabel Reid | New Zealand News | Saturday September 22 2012 12:50

A principal whose school is facing closure in Christchurch is dubious about the reasoning behind the Government's plans.

Thousands gathered in Hagley Park this afternoon to protest against plans to close 13 schools in the region, and merge another 18.

Principal of Branston Intermediate, Jennifer O’Leary, says she's failing to see the purpose in the proposal.

"This is not about earthquakes. This is about a national agenda for national education."

Ms O'Leary says she hopes all of Christchurch gets behind those schools facing the axe.
