Search teams to resume missing vessel search

By: Newstalk ZB staff | New Zealand News | Sunday September 16 2012 6:34

A Coastguard plane has been sent up to look for two people believed to be onboard a missing fishing boat off the Fiordland Coast.

Search teams are out looking for a fishing vessel which is missing off the coast of Fiordland.

A life raft has been found and a fuel slick has been seen a few kilometres from the mouth of Milford Sound.

Two people are known to have been on board the fishing boat, and three other boats have been searching all night.

Two helicopters gave up their efforts last night because of the weather, but a Coastguard plane from Invercargill will be joining the search this morning.

Emergency services were alerted around five yesterday evening after an oil slick was seen near the mouth of Milford Sound.

Helicopters and nearby vessels assisted in the efforts last night until murky weather forced the choppers back.
