Search underway for missing soldier in Waiouru

By: Nina Burton | New Zealand News | Wednesday September 26 2012 8:12

A search has resumed this morning for a soldier missing on Lake Moawhango near Waiouru.

The soldier went missing last night during a training exercise.

Ruapehu Area Commander Inspector Steve Mastrovich says police were called just before six, after the soldier in his late 20's fell from an inflatable boat, on return from a training exercise.

He says police, New Zealand Defence Force Staff and a rescue helicopter were used yesterday evening to look for the man.

The police dive squad will be assisting in the search today.

Next of kin have been informed, but the name hasn't been released yet.
