Man hit and killed by train

A man has been hit by a train and killed in Canterbury.

It happened at Hinds, near Ashburton not long after 1am this morning.

Ashburton police are looking into the circumstances.

It's only a week since a man visiting from Germany was killed by a train in Christchurch.

He was seen lying down on the tracks, not long before he died last Sunday morning on his way home from a party in Waltham.
