Japan relations celebrated with 60m sushi roll

By: Newstalk ZB staff | New Zealand News | Monday September 10 2012 7:45

New Zealand's 60 years of relations with Japan have been marked in Wellington.

More than 120 volunteers rolled 60 metres of sushi at Wellington's Town Hall yesterday to celebrate the 2012 Kia Kaha Japan Festival.

Sol Fergus, of the Japan Exchange and Teaching Association, says the undertaking proved to be great fun, with volunteers taste testing their creation after the rolling had wrapped up.

"From all accounts it was quite a great success really, given that it's quite a mammoth feat to roll 60 metres with a bunch of amateurs. The youngest that I can remember on the registered list was four years, right up to older folk as well."
