Vector working to fix power faults

| New Zealand News | Wednesday August 1 2012 8:33

Vector is working to repair a fault which caused loud bangs and fireballs in South Auckland this morning.

A cable fault on the Weymouth Road over bridge caused a power outage in Manurewa this morning.

Nearly 200-customers have been affected.

Vector says it's working with the train operator to ensure passenger safety is prioritised, and trains will return to service when safety checks have been completed.

Fire spokesman Jaron Philips says the loud bangs are continuous and the fire service is there.

He says initial reports were of flames and a fire ball on the footpath.

"Weymouth Rd itself has been closed, trains have also been stopped on that line."

Jaron Philips says Manurewra's South Mall shopping centre carpark has also been evacuated.
