A major change to the make up of the telecommunications sector could be on the cards. Telstra Corporation is in discussions to sell its New Zealand subsidiary, TelstraClear to Vodafone, clearing the way for the Australian based Telstra Corporation to take over Telecom. Telecommunications analyst Paul Budde says if that happens Telecom as we know it will cease to exist. He says the loser will be Telecom because it will disappear as an institution in New Zealand and there will be job losses. Mr Budde says the take over would offer an enormous cost saving and make the new Telecom, owned by Telstra, more competitive. Photo: NZ Herald |
