Occupy Christchurch all packed up

By: Annabel Reid | New Zealand News | Sunday March 25 2012 7:24

After 159 days of protest, the occupy Christchurch camp has been packed up.

Today, protesters have invited anyone who's interested to a series of workshops explaining their cause, in what they're calling an "educational experience". The workshops will run from 10am to 7pm in the eastern corner of South Hagley Park.

Spokesman Rik Tindall says it's a fitting way to conclude the encampment.

"It gives us another chance just get any cigarette butts or tiny bits of litter that may remain but its an educational day and a celebration of what occupy's done for bringing people together and focusing on the important issues," he says.

"We're back on our feet now, the camp was a drain on resources and a difficult thing to keep going. We had many social sectors coming through there, and not all of them, if any, agreed."

Rik Tindall says the group is grateful for the open channel of communication Christchurch City Council has kept with occupiers.
