Doubt's being cast on whether gang members are trying to find a way to infiltrate the police force. Police Association president Greg O'Connor says gang members have been caught trying to get into the force to get inside information. University of Canterbury gang researcher, Jarrod Gilbert, says he's found no evidence of that. "It shows a degree of forward planning that usually isn't associated with New Zealand gangs, and to be quite honest I find it largely implausible that this would be happening in any significant numbers whatsoever." Jarrod Gilbert says most gang members have criminal form before they join gangs, so they'd be weeded out before getting close to trying out for the police. Photo: NZ Herald |
