Police have laid charges against a man they've identified as driving a quad bike that crashed at a Hawke's Bay beach, leaving a child with severe head injuries.
28-year-old Daniel McGregor is the injured girl's father.
He is facing four charges of driving with excess breath alcohol causing injury, one of reckless driving, another of cultivating and possessing cannabis, as well as possessing utensils.
Six-year-old Ashlee Shorrock was one of five people injured when a quad bike veered off a bank at Waimarama Beach on January 2.
She was thrown from the bike, suffering injuries to her face, neck, spine and back and a fractured skull.
She's been transferred from Auckland Starship Hospital to the Wilson Rehabilitation Centre in Auckland.
McGregor will appear in the Hastings District Court next month.
