For the first time in nearly three decades the New Zealand Defence Force is set to participate in the world's largest international maritime exercise. Exercise Rim of the Pacific will involve 22 countries, 25,000 personnel, 42 ships, six submarine and over 200 aircraft. Commander Garin Golding says about 600 personnel from New Zealand will be attending the exercise, which will be conduced near Hawaii from the end of next month. "It offers a key opportunity to work alongside a number of Pacific nations to enable us to build interoperability and key relationships."
