Minister marks World Wetlands Day

Related

Conservation Minister Nick Smith is marking World Wetlands Day, by launching a stamp of a pukeko.

The latest addition to the Game Bird Habitat Collection is painted by artist Jeanette Blackburn, and set in Marlborough's Para Wetland.

Dr Smith says the stamp will raise funds to protect and improve the habitat of game birds on public and private wetlands.

He says many landowners are starting to appreciate the value of wetlands, to purify farm runoff and protect land from flood damage.

The day is being marked by events around the country, with public walks and kayak tours.
