An Auckland church is leading the charge for drug and alcohol free celebrations this New Year period. More than 1,000 youth members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will spend the next six days involved in workshops, devotionals and New Year theme activities like dance parties and balls. Conference organiser Hans Sorensen says these kids don't need artificial stimulants to help them have a good time like many other festival goers around New Zealand. He says many kids of the same age will be at a lot of the hot spots and some may end up arrested because of alcohol. Hans Sorensen says that won't be an outcome at the conference where the next morning all of the participants will remember everything they've done in a safe and enjoyable night. Photo: stock.xchng |
