Labour weekend sees the start of Surf Life Saving patrols on our beaches. There are 73 clubs around the country, with Northern and Bay of Plenty clubs first to start patrols. Spokesman Brett Sullivan says by mid to late November, all clubs will be on patrol. He says last summer wasn't the best, with many drownings along the coast. Brett Sullivan says people must be cautious. "Prepare carefully before they go to the beach, take the time to look at forecasts, look at the conditions. Check that all of their equipment is correct and in good working order." Brett Sullivan says people need to be extra careful if they're swimming where there are no patrols. Photo: NZ Herald |
