Railway repairs to cost over $3m

| New Zealand News | Friday April 13 2012 12:50

KiwiRail will look closely at the long term economic viability of the railway line between Napier and Gisborne before any decision on its future is made.

KiwiRail says repairing the damaged railway line between Napier and Gisborne will cost between three and four million dollars and would take five months to complete.

Chief Executive Jim Quinn says it's important to look at where the line is today and where it could be in the future.

"It's a significant amount of money and it's important we take the responsible view before we go off spending it, if that was to be the case or we need to be clear why we wouldn't spend it."
