Study says Auckland tourism is below-par

By: Caleb Allison | Latest National News | Friday January 6 2012 6:07

A new study suggests Auckland needs to capitalise more on its tourism opportunities.

Auckland University's 'Eco-system of Competitiveness' report says Auckland tourism performs below-par compared with other key Australasian cities.

Study leader Professor Siah Ang says domestic visitors make up over 80% of visitors to the city, but are also the least satisfied group.

He says Auckland needs to focus more on local demand for tourism, and could also take more advantage of its key assets including the Hauraki Gulf, sky tower and museum.
