No plans for full body scanner at NZ airports

By: Felix Marwick | Latest National News | Tuesday February 7 2012 19:15

Our Minister of Transport will monitor Australia's plan to introduce full body scans at its international airports.

The technology's raised privacy issues and sparked controversy because of the revealing and personal nature of the scans.

Australia intends to make full body scans compulsory.

Gerry Brownlee says there are no plans to introduce similar measures here at the moment.

"We're going to just monitor what happens in Australia, how well that introduction goes, we think that we have a clear understanding of our risk profile in this country and that the arrangements we've got in place are satisfactory at the moment."
